Marie-Claire Lawler

Marie-Claire started with the UIC in 2024 supporting the organisation behind the scenes. In February 2026, she expanded her role to include training and facilitating events. This was a natural progression and one she genuinely enjoyed.

With a background in audit and taxation accounting, Marie-Claire has worked in mid-tier firms and private corporations. Driven by both curiosity and service, she moved from accounting into front-line emergency ambulance care, before another change in to teaching. Starting as a high school teacher of business, maths and accounting, her focus then shifted to early literacy and language development.

She is passionate about clear, explicit and systematic instruction and the difference it makes for learners. It is one of the reasons UIMPROVE resonated so strongly with her. The structured and practical approach mirrors what she knows to be true in education. When teaching is clear and purposeful, people grow in confidence and capability.

Outside of the UIC, Marie-Claire continues teaching literacy intervention, supporting children to broaden their language and literacy skills. She is a self-confessed word nerd with a particular interest in morphology and etymology (and yes, that is word history, not insects).

At home, she joins forces with her wonderful husband to wrangle their two adorable rascals. Life is full, busy and noisy in the best possible way. She values good conversations, practical solutions and a sense of humour.
